Ryan joined the Department of Focused Inquiry in 2010. He earned both a BA in Philosophy and an MA in Writing & Rhetoric from VCU.  He teaches UNIV 112 (Focused Inquiry II), UNIV 200 (Inquiry & The Craft of Argument), and UNIV 213 (The Truth About Lying), and has also been a long-time volunteer instructor at the Richmond prisoner reentry program Opportunity Alliance Reentry. His research and teaching interests include rhetorical theory and criticism, composition, and service learning.  While his recent presentations have focused on online pedagogy and collaboration, his latest publication focuses on queer narratives and homonormativity in contemporary television.  He is a big fan of board games and card tricks.
