Jason Coats has teaching specialties in Research Writing (UNIV 200), although he has also taught UNIV 112 and other courses occasionally for the VCU English Department. Prior to joining the University College in 2010, he taught as the Edgar F. Shannon Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Virginia, where he also received his PhD in 2008. Besides composition and rhetoric, his research and teaching interests include Anglo-American modernist literature, poetry and poetics, literary theory, and online pedagogy. His publications have appeared in journals such as Twentieth Century Literature, South Atlantic Review, Modernist Cultures, Narrative, and Modernism/modernity. He also has a chapter about Yeats’s tower Thoor Ballylee in a book collection called Security and Hospitality due out from Routledge in Fall 2015.
